About Carina

As the Community Engagement Coordinator, Carina works with the regional chapters of Latinas4RJ– CLRJ’s leadership development and advocacy program for Latina/x RJ activists. She herself became involved in social justice work during the Occupy movement in 2011 and continued her activism as a student organizer in environmental, educational and immigrant justice groups at Santa Monica College. Carina is currently an undergraduate student at UCLA where she is majoring in Latin American Studies and draws from her Boricua identity and experiences living in Mexico to explore theories of liberation and decolonization. Her greatest source of pride and sense of achievement, though, is mothering her five year old son.
