Our ability to take care of our families, our comm Our ability to take care of our families, our communities, and our health is tied to our ability to access safe, clean, affordable housing. Despite the current emergency 90 day rent freeze in Bell Gardens, residents have continued to report rent increases, evictions, displacement, harassment from their landlords and poor health outcomes as a result. BG residents should not be forced to choose between putting food on the table, accessing critical medication, purchasing school supplies, or paying rent. Extending the emergency rent freeze & passing #RentStabilization4BG with a ceiling of 3% is a way for @cityofbellgardens to show their commitment to the stability, health & dignity of their constituents.

When all the members of our community have access to safe, stable, affordable housing, our community thrives. Bell Gardens needs #RentStabilization4BG to keep building a safe & sustainable community for all!

Support the Union de Vecinas at the Bell Gardens City Council meeting today 6/27 and share your testimony in support of rent stabilization. Send your written comments by email to unidas@clrj.org or directly to the City of Bell Gardens at: PublicComments@bellgardens.org

We know that people of all ages, genders, races, a We know that people of all ages, genders, races, abilities and classes will continue to seek and obtain abortions and WE WILL SUPPORT that right regardless of the Supreme Court decision.

Despite Friday’s SCOTUS decision, ABORTION IS AND WILL REMAIN LEGAL IN CALIFORNIA. ABORTION CARE IS SAFE. ABORTION CARE IS HEALTH CARE.

Folks across the country, communities, advocates, organizations, and lawmakers have been working and preparing for this moment. In CA, we continue to work on a range of bills to protect the rights of all people, and we mean ALL including non-Californians, to access abortion making sure that all potential gaps in access are filled.

Now is the time to support abortion care providers, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ people, folks who are disabled, clinics, funds and folks with the least resources, information, and means to receive the care they need.

Now is the time to channel our momentum into supporting & building the extensive networks of community care.

Today’s Supreme Court decision is a result of th Today’s Supreme Court decision is a result of the deep rooted legacy of reproductive oppression that is woven into the fabric of this country. We know that people of all ages, genders, races, abilities and classes will continue to seek and obtain abortions and WE WILL SUPPORT that right regardless of the Supreme Court decision.

Overturning Roe has only ever been about policing our bodies and controlling the most marginalized folks in our communities. And it is Black, Indigenous, other communities of color, people living in poverty, folks with disabilities, immigrants, young people, and our LGBTQIA+ familia who will bear the brunt of the SCOTUS Roe repeal.

Let us be clear, our communities have always been experts at showing up for one another and finding a way. SCOTUS’s decision will not stop us from ensuring our communities can exercise their right to bodily autonomy, including accessing safe abortion care.

LET’S MAKE SURE OUR COMMUNITIES GET THE CARE THEY NEED:

We’re joining the Union de Vecinas (UdV) de Bell We’re joining the Union de Vecinas (UdV) de Bell Gardens to call on the @cityofbellgardens City Council to listen to their community and pass rent stabilization measures that will protect BG residents, families, and children! The City of Bell Gardens has a population of over 50,000, and has one of the largest renter populations in LA County that will directly benefit from rent stabilization. Bell Gardens residents want to spend quality time with their families, without worrying about whether they’ll be able to pay rent next month. BG mamas and families want to focus on their children and raise their kids in healthy, safe, affordable homes, free of harassment.

Bell Gardens needs #RentStabilization4BG to keep building a safe & sustainable community for all!

On this first day of pride, we are radically hopef On this first day of pride, we are radically hopeful for a future that so many of our transcestors and queer siblings paved the way for knowing they might never live to see it.

A future where Queer and Trans folks have freedom over their bodies including access to abortion services, gender affirming surgery, and the right to decide to become parents.

A future where queer folks are uplifted, prioritized, and respected far past just the month of June.

A future where the ability to grow old alongside the people we love is a right, not a privilege.

A future where queer and trans folks can live long lives full of love, support, dignity, and endless possibility. Fulfilling our right to determine our own futures is only possible if we are alive long enough to see our futures through.

We envision and continue to fight for a future where our communities have a joyful and celebrated abundance of queer & trans elders. 💜

Building a future where queer & trans folks are free to express their true selves without having to fear any violence, shame, stigma, or barriers to love, support, and care is Reproductive Justice. 🌈

A gentle reminder - be kind to yourself, give yourself space, and rest. It's been a heavy month. Mourning tragedy after tragedy is exhausting. Navigating those feelings while living in a "business as usual" society is exhausting.

We're holding all of our friends, family, and community members close to our hearts.”

We’re thrilled to announce that yesterday, our co-sponsored bill AB2586 (Garcia) Reproductive Justice and Freedom Fund passed out of the First House! 🎉

BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and people with disabilities continue to face higher rates of sexual & reproductive health inequities across California. #AB2586 employs long term & immediate strategies that center the needs of those most impacted in our communities. Investing in building safe and healthy communities where people are all able to access the healthcare services that they need without any barriers to access is Reproductive Justice. Stay tuned as our other co-sponsored bill AB2223 (Wicks) Decriminalization of Abortion and Pregnancy Loss moves through the first house this week!

We must continue to support and fight for our collective right to bodily autonomy, the ability to decide if and when to parent, and for our familias right to live with dignity and respect in safe and healthy communities!

We join our immigrant community in great disappoin We join our immigrant community in great disappointment of Friday's late evening ruling by a Federal Judge to halt the repeal of Title 42, a racist, ableist, transphobic policy that uses the global pandemic to prevent migrants from accessing the asylum process and expedites their deportation processes.

Black and brown people seeking asylum at our border have had the door slammed in their faces with dire consequences. Every day that Title 42 remains intact vulnerable people, families, and the lives of children are sacrificed. Many have been stranded in Mexico, waiting for their chance to seek asylum for months, or even years.

We urge you to follow immigrant rights orgs working to repeal this racist, ableist, Transphobic policy including: @instabaji @haitianbridge @alotrolado_org @unitedwedream @undocublack @officialblmp @nilc

POLICY UPDATE 📣 We’re thrilled to announce t POLICY UPDATE 📣

We’re thrilled to announce that two of our co-sponsored bills AB2223 (Wicks) Decriminalization of Abortion and Pregnancy Loss and AB2586 (Garcia) Reproductive Justice and Freedom Fund just passed out of the Assembly Appropriations Committee! 🎉

In the past two decades, there has been a marked escalation in attempts to criminalize people for experiencing miscarriages or stillbirths, or for ending their own pregnancy outside the formal medical system. California has not been exempt from this trend. AB2223 (Wicks) Decriminalization of Abortion and Pregnancy Loss will ensure that no one in the State of California will be investigated for ending a pregnancy or experiencing pregnancy loss.

AB2586 (Garcia) Reproductive Justice and Freedom Fund bill, and companion $15 million budget request, seeks to address and eliminate reproductive and sexual health inequities by developing responsive policy recommendations centered in a Reproductive Justice Framework. BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and people with disabilities continue to face higher rates of sexual & reproductive health inequities across California, which #AB2586 addresses by employing long term & immediate strategies that center the needs of those most impacted in our communities.

We are honored to work with amazing partners, community, and legislators invested in building safe and healthy communities where people are all able to access the healthcare services that they need without fear or retribution. 🚨🚨Stay tuned for more information on how to take action as both bills move to the Assembly floor vote next week!
