The Intersection
Every person deserves the right to decide if, when, and how to build and sustain their family. Every parent deserves the ability to raise their children in safe, healthy communities free from fear, separation, and state violence. Yet across California and the country, immigrant families are denied these fundamental rights every day. Mothers are separated from their children through detention and deportation. Pregnant people are denied adequate healthcare while in custody. Families live under the constant threat of raids, surveillance, displacement, and family separation. Children grow up carrying the trauma of seeing their loved ones criminalized simply for seeking safety and opportunity. Immigrants in detention facilities have faced forced sterilizations, denied prenatal care, and coerced medical procedures. Pregnant people in ICE custody routinely lack access to adequate healthcare. Shackling during labor, miscarriages due to neglect, and separation from newborns are documented realities — not distant history, but ongoing crises. This is not separate from reproductive justice. It is reproductive injustice. At California Latinas for Reproductive Justice, we understand that reproductive justice means more than access to healthcare. It means having the power, resources, and freedom to make decisions about our bodies, our families, and our futures. It means being able to parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities. It means living with dignity, regardless of immigration status. That is why we launched Vidas Sin Fronteras: Immigration Justice is Reproductive Justice. For generations, Latine immigrant communities have carried the weight of policies designed to separate families, limit opportunities, and control our lives. Today, those harms continue through detention, deportation, economic instability, and attacks on immigrant rights. Through Vidas Sin Fronteras, we are building community power to challenge these systems and advance a vision where all families can thrive.
Our Work
Through community organizing, political education, storytelling, and leadership development, we are: Creating healing-centered spaces where immigrant women and families can share their experiences and build collective power. Developing community leaders who can advocate for immigrant and reproductive justice in their neighborhoods and communities. Advancing policies that protect families from displacement, detention, and family separation. Building public understanding that immigration justice and reproductive justice are deeply interconnected struggles.
Our Vision
We envision a world where no parent fears being separated from their child. A world where families are not forced to choose between safety and survival. A world where borders, detention, and criminalization no longer determine who deserves care, dignity, and freedom. A world where every person has the power to make decisions about their body, their family, and their future.
One Struggle, One Fight
Both movements challenge state control over bodies and families. Both center the experiences of women of color, trans people, and low-income communities. We have long understood that you cannot separate the border from the body, that family separation IS reproductive justice and that the right to parent freely requires the right to live freely. Because reproductive justice does not stop at a border. And neither does our fight for liberation. Por cada madre. Por cada niñx. Por cada familia. Seguimos en la lucha.
